New CRUK funded Project to Study Impact of Childhood Cancer on Education

A new research project funded by Cancer Research UK and Children with Cancer UK aims to understand how childhood cancer affects school attainment and attendance. Led by Prof Katie Harron at University College London (UCL), the study will use the ECHILD database to link school and hospital data, providing insights into the educational challenges faced by childhood cancer survivors.

The project seeks to determine if survivors are more likely to encounter additional health conditions later in life. This research will help develop better support systems in schools and inform treatment options that minimize educational disruptions.

The project will enhance the ECHILD database with cancer registration data, enabling further research on childhood cancer impacts. More details here.
